FAQs
1. What is hemp?
Hemp is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species that is often grown for industrial uses. It can be used to produce a wide range of products, including food, health supplements, textiles, paper, and biofuel.
Compared to its intoxicating cousin commonly known as “marijuana”, Hemp is known for its low concentration of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive compound found in cannabis.
2. What is the difference between cannabis and hemp?
Actually it’s all “cannabis.” The lower THC potency version of the cannabis plant is commonly referred to as “hemp” and the higher THC potency version of the plant is commonly referred to as “marijuana.” The US 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp if it contains less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis.
3. Is hemp legal?
Hemp is legal in many parts of the world, including the United States, where the 2018 Farm Bill legalized the cultivation and sale of hemp and hemp-derived products, provided they contain no more than 0.3% THC by dry weight.
4. Does hemp get you high?
If you consume enough THC, regardless of its source, it can produce psychoactive effects, commonly referred to as a "high." Hemp contains a variety of compounds called cannabinoids including CBD and small amounts of THC. The cannabinoid THC found in the hemp plant can get you high.
Our Select hemp-derived THC products are designed to be within the legal 0.3% THC limits while also producing an elevated experience. Always check product labels and ensure you are aware of the THC potency and dosage of your product, especially if you wish to avoid more intense psychoactive effects.
5. What are cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are a group of naturally occurring chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. The two most well-known cannabinoids are THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol).
Your body has its own “endocannabinoid system” and cannabis cannabinoids interact with your natural body’s system in a supportive and therapeutic manner to support various physiological processes, including pain, mood, appetite, and immune function.
Cannabinoids are natural compounds that can benefit the body in various ways, much like vitamins. Each cannabinoid found in cannabis, just like Vitamin C found in citrus, has a specific role in maintaining health and wellness.
6. How much hemp should I take?
If you are new to THC, start low and slow at a beginner dose (also known as microdose). We suggest 2.5mg THC. Cannabis affects everyone differently. Use responsibly. Gradually increase dosage until the desired effect is achieved. Always pay attention to suggested dosage instructions on the packaging.
Tip: If you are new to THC, or consuming a new product, it is always suggested to wait at least 2 hours before consuming more THC.
7. Will I pass a drug test if I take hemp?
It depends. It is unlikely that you will pass a drug test if THC is present at any level in a hemp product you consume.
Most standard drug tests are designed to detect THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis. While most hemp products contain lower amounts of THC (0.3% or less) compared to marijuana, there is still a possibility that use of hemp-derived products could lead to a positive drug test result.
8. How do I know if a hemp-derived THC product is high quality?
A high-quality, hemp-derived THC product will provide you access to third-party lab testing results. View our lab results here.
All Select hemp THC products are tested for potency, microbiological contaminants, pesticides, heavy metals, mycotoxins and residual solvents through an ISO accredited testing laboratory.
Curaleaf is proud to relentlessly monitor and improve our testing, quality-control and compliance teams, capabilities and resources, which are often stricter than industry and state standards. Our Select hemp-derrived THC products are made in a GMP certified facility in KY.
As industry pioneers, Curaleaf was one of the first companies to invest in advanced testing laboratories. We led the way in bringing this testing into standard industry practice and were among the first companies to invest in quality control expertise and systems.
